Родом из г. Колумбуса, шт. Джорджия, принадлежала к "южной школе" писателей. В ее произведениях отражен быт, умонастроения и психологический климат Юга [South] 30-50-х гг. Главная тема - разобщенность людей, одиночество ее героев, их стремление к любви
